As pride month draws to a close it’s important f As pride month draws to a close it’s important for us to recognize and remember the struggles LGBTQ+ adults face each day. According to a 2016 study done by the UCLA Williams Institute, LGBTQ adults were 1.6 times more likely to report food insecurity in the previous year than non-LGBTQ adults.

If you’re looking for a way to be more informed about the increased rate of food insecurity among LGBTQ+ check out the first episode of the Clear Finance Chat podcast where they discuss what food insecurity looks like, the inequalities in our food system for low-income and marginalized communities, and how hunger and food insecurity disproportionately affects LGBTQ communities.

If you’re looking for a way to get involved check out The Okra Project. The Okra Project is a collective that seeks to address the global crisis faced by Black Trans people by bringing home cooked, healthy, and culturally specific meals and resources to Black Trans People wherever they can reach them.

Meet Opal Lee, otherwise known as the grandmother Meet Opal Lee, otherwise known as the grandmother of Juneteenth. In 2016, at 89 years old, Ms. Lee ignited a movement to make Juneteenth an official federal holiday by walking 2.5 miles from Fort Worth, TX to Washington D.C. The 2.5 miles symbolized the 2.5 years it took for the news of freedom to reach all enslaved people in America. As we near the 2nd anniversary of Ms. Lee’s efforts being achieved, we are reminded that ‘there’s lots more that needs to be done’. Swipe to find ways for you to observe and celebrate Juneteenth this year!
